NAD Infusion Therapy: What We Know, What We Don’t, and How We Care

Curious about NAD infusions for energy, focus, or longevity? You are not alone. Many patients ask whether an IV can restore metabolism, erase fatigue, or slow aging. In this post, we explain what NAD is, what the science shows so far, where uncertainty remains, and how we approach your goals with clarity, safety, and a plan you can trust.

First, what is NAD?

NAD stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. It is a molecule your cells use to make energy and carry out repair. Think of it as a helper that supports mitochondria, the tiny engines that turn food into fuel. Your body makes NAD from vitamin B3 building blocks, such as niacin, nicotinamide, and nicotinamide riboside. NAD levels tend to decline with age and with certain illnesses. That decline is one reason you see rising interest in ways to support cellular energy.

NAD infusions deliver a form of NAD or NAD precursors through an IV. Sessions are often several hours long. Protocols vary widely. Some clinics also offer oral supplements that aim to nudge NAD pathways.

Why are people asking about NAD infusion therapy?

Patients are hearing big promises. More energy, sharper thinking, better sleep, faster recovery, and healthier aging. Athletes, high performers, and people navigating long workdays want a safe boost that does not rely on stimulants. Others are exploring NAD for brain fog, mood, or metabolism. Social media and word of mouth amplify success stories, which creates momentum and curiosity.

It is reasonable to want better energy and clearer thinking. You deserve simple, honest guidance about what is proven and what is still theoretical.

What does current evidence show about NAD infusions?

The biology is compelling. In cells and animal models, NAD pathways influence energy production, DNA repair, inflammation, and stress responses. Raising NAD in animals can improve certain markers of metabolic health. That is the exciting part.

Human evidence is still early. Small studies and case series suggest potential benefits for withdrawal support, jet lag recovery, and subjective energy, but high quality, placebo controlled trials for broad outcomes like sustained energy, cognition, or longevity are limited. We do not yet have strong data on long term safety, ideal dosing, who benefits most, or how IV therapy compares with simpler approaches such as sleep optimization, exercise, nutrition, and targeted metabolic treatments.

Bottom line, promising mechanisms, evolving data, and many unknowns.

Safety considerations with NAD IV therapy

All IV therapies carry risks. With NAD infusions, consider:

  • Infusion reactions: flushing, chest tightness, nausea, headache, and lightheadedness can occur. These often relate to infusion speed and may improve with slower rates, but not always.
  • IV line risks: pain, bruising, infiltration, phlebitis, and infection. Rarely, more serious complications.
  • Interactions and comorbidities: limited data in pregnancy, breastfeeding, cancer, advanced liver or kidney disease, and autoimmune conditions. Caution is prudent.
  • Quality and sterility: compounding quality, storage, and handling matter. Protocols vary by clinic. Not all products are standardized.
  • Unknowns: no robust long term safety data, unclear optimal dosing frequency, and uncertain comparative benefit versus oral precursors or lifestyle and medical therapies.

If you consider an infusion anywhere, ask about product sourcing, sterile technique, crash cart readiness, clinician oversight, informed consent, and what happens if you feel unwell mid infusion. Your safety comes first.

Do we offer NAD infusions at Sol Endocrinology?

Not at this time. As a concierge endocrinology practice in Dallas, we prioritize interventions with strong human data for safety and outcomes. Our take is simple, the mechanisms are interesting, yet high quality evidence of benefit and safety are not there yet. When better information is available to clarify who benefits, how much, and at what risk, we will review and update our stance.

In the meantime, we stay focused on proven strategies that lift energy and improve metabolic health.

What we focus on instead to improve energy and metabolic health

You should not have to gamble on hype to feel better. We build a plan with you, grounded in science and tailored to your life.

  • Precise metabolic assessment: we check insulin resistance, thyroid function, cortisol patterns, sex hormones, and diagnosing conditions like sleep apnea. If CGM helps, we initiate it, interpret your data in context, and coach you on pattern recognition that fits your day.
  • Evidence based weight and metabolic therapies: when indicated, we use GLP 1s, metformin, thyroid optimization, or testosterone treatment for confirmed deficiency with monitoring. We pair medications with nutrition, movement, stress reduction, and sleep strategies so benefits stick.
  • Sleep and circadian support: structured sleep routines, light exposure timing, and brief post meal walks to flatten glucose spikes. These simple actions move the needle on energy and cravings.
  • Nutrition you can live with: adequate protein, fiber rich plants, and smart carbohydrate timing. We coach you on restaurant choices, travel plans, and holiday strategies that work in real life.
  • Periodic reassessment: your plan should evolve. We recheck labs, track symptoms, and adjust. The goal is measurable progress, fewer surprises, and clear next steps.

If you want a partner in this process, Dr. Roe and the staff at Sop Endocrinology provide longer visits, direct clinician communication for members, and coordinated care without the runaround. Learn more about Sol Endocrinology on our site.

What about cost, including weight loss programs?

Pricing varies by clinic and insurance. For NAD specifically, infusion packages can be costly and are rarely covered by insurance. Because we do not offer NAD, we do not quote infusion pricing.

For endocrinology and metabolic care, we accept many commercial insurance programs and there is a membership fee that covers additional services, longer appointments and personalized care that is not covered by insurance.  The best next step is to call the office so we can review your situation and outline transparent options to help you decide. If you are comparing programs or looking for an endocrinologist, we are happy to walk you through our process.

How to think about NAD, practically

  • Start with foundations: sleep, nutrition, movement, stress, and medical conditions that drain energy. These are potent levers.
  • Address clear deficits: thyroid disease, iron deficiency, B12 deficiency, sleep apnea, depression, or testosterone deficiency are just a few examples.
  • Revisit as evidence grows: set a calendar reminder to review new data with your clinician. Your plan should change as science advances.

Our promise

We will always tell you what we know, what we do not, and why. No hype, no mystery, just careful guidance and a clear plan to help you feel and function better.

If you want an expert partner in dallas endocrinology who listens, explains, and follows through, we would love to meet you. You will leave with next steps you can act on and support to keep going.
